Kidney Failure TreatmentKidneys are a pair of bean shaped organs that perform the most crucial functions of the body. Some of them are:

  • Kidneys filter out toxins, excess salts, urea and nitrogenous waste that are created by the cell metabolism. Kidneys remove the urea that is synthesized by the liver.
  • Kidneys balance the water level in the body; it reacts to the changes in the body’s water level throughout the day. Kidneys adjust itself according to the water level in the body.
  • They help in maintaining the blood pressure in the body. It filters the blood and helps in the retention of the normal blood pressure.
  • They maintain and regulate the oxygen level in the blood.
  • Kidneys help in keeping a healthy balance of acids by either increasing or neutralizing them.

Usually, kidney related problems are seen in elderly people that are suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure. These people have more risk of developing chronic kidney disease due to the loss in the functioning of the kidneys. The symptoms of kidney failure are only visible in the later stages when the disease has progressed. Some of the most common signs of kidney problems are, change in color of urine, blood in urine, nausea, vomiting, weakness, and swelling in hands and knees.

Types of Kidney Disease

There are mainly five types of kidney disease that a person can suffer from, namely:

  • Acute pre-renal kidney failure is a condition in which there is an insufficient blood flow to the kidneys. As there is not enough blood flow, the kidneys are not able to filter the toxins.
  • Acute intrinsic kidney failure is caused by the direct trauma to the kidneys in form of physical impact or accident. It results in the condition of toxin overload and ischemia which is due to the lack of oxygen in the kidneys.
  • Chronic post-renal kidney failure is a long-term blockage of the urinary tract prevents urination. This results in pressure and eventually kidney damage.
  • Chronic pre-renal kidney failure when there is not enough blood flow to the kidneys for a longer period of time. The kidneys may lead to shrinkage and lose the ability to function.
  • Chronic intrinsic kidney failure is a long-term damage that occurs due to intrinsic kidney disease. Such a condition is mainly due to the direct trauma to the kidneys such as lack of oxygen and severe bleeding.
