Citrus fruit lemon orange- Lemon, oranges are rich sources of vitamin C, but also rich in potassium, and that is considered bad for kidney patients. Excess of potassium in the body leads to the weakening of muscles and body. It is suggested to take the juice of cranberry, grapes, and apples as a substitute to orange or any citrus juice.
Oily processed fast food- Fast food is easily available and can be consumed anywhere, but when it comes to the kidney patient, it is a big no. The added colors and the oil used in the preparation of the food is not only bad for kidney patients, but it may also risk the life of a healthy human being. Some canned and packed food contains sodium, which can be harmful to the patient.
All green leafy vegetables- We all know that green and leafy vegetables are rich in potassium, and excess of potassium is bad for your kidneys. One should limit the consumption of leafy vegetables or completely avoid it if they are on a renal diet.
Dry fruits- Dry fruits contain concentrated nutrients that mean dry fruits contain every nutrient in excess. You would not know, but few dates can accumulate 668 mg of potassium in your body.
Juice and Soup– Potassium intake helps in the working of nerves and muscles. But in cases like CKD, one’s kidney becomes weak to filter the excess accumulated potassium in the body. A cup of instant oatmeal contains 176mg of phosphorus. There are certain cases where oatmeal can be beneficial like its high fiber helps in reducing cholesterol in the blood. But before adding anything in your diet, you should consult your dietitian first. The regular oatmeal has sodium and phosphorus in lesser quantity than that of instant oatmeal.

Potatoes and sweet potatoes- Potatoes and sweet potatoes are rich sources of potassium, and hence, it is bad for the kidneys. Potassium hardens the nephrons of the kidneys that make the functioning tough. One can reduce the potassium level in the potatoes by 50% by boiling it.
Banana- One banana contains around 430 mg of potassium. A person suffering from kidney disorders should not completely refuse the consumption of potassium but should reduce it.
Dark colas- Cola contains many additives in it that are the rich source of phosphorus. Along with it, it has many calories and sugar that can increase the risk of diabetes in the kidney patient. The phosphorus present in colas is not natural but added. It is present in the form of salt, and it should be avoided if you are on a kidney diet.
